Gators Saturday · Late Recap: Georgia Holds Off Florida in Atlanta, Top 25 Shakeups
Frankie "Swamp Fox" Marion recaps Saturday's college football action, Florida's physical battle against Georgia, and how his morning score predictions and player matchups fared.

The sun has set on Week 9, and the college football landscape delivered everything we bargained for. Georgia and Florida went toe-to-toe in a brutal SEC slugfest in Atlanta, while contenders across the Top 25 faced season-defining challenges. Here is my Saturday late recap, how my morning predictions held up, and what it means for Sunday's rankings.
The Atlanta Showdown: Georgia 31, Florida 26
The World's Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party proved once again why it is the most intense rivalry in the South. Aaron Philo played with tremendous courage, connecting with Dallas Wilson for two long touchdowns, and Jadan Baugh found the end zone for his 14th score of the season. Florida led 20-17 at halftime, but Georgia's defensive line tightened up in the fourth quarter. Raylen Wilson made two drive-killing third-down stops, and Gunner Stockton orchestrated a late touchdown drive to give Georgia the 31-26 victory.
While the final score hurts, Florida showed national championship caliber fight. Standing at 5-3, the Gators have proven they can compete with the top five in the country, and their playoff resume remains alive with Oklahoma, Kentucky, and Florida State ahead.
Reviewing the Morning Top 25 Predictions
- #1 Miami vs. Duke: My morning pick was Miami 38-20. Cam Ward put on another Heisman clinic, slicing through Duke's secondary to keep the Hurricanes undefeated at 8-0. Xavier Restrepo proved completely uncoverable in the slot.
- #2 Ohio State vs. Nebraska: My pick was Ohio State 35-14. Jeremiah Smith hauled in a 40-yard touchdown on the Buckeyes' opening drive, and Ohio State's defense smothered Dylan Raiola all afternoon.
- #5 Notre Dame vs. #24 Navy: My pick was Notre Dame 31-17. Riley Leonard executed cleanly in the red zone, and the Fighting Irish defensive front disciplined their gaps against Navy's triple-option.
- #11 Texas vs. #25 Vanderbilt: Quinn Ewers took care of business in Nashville, holding off Diego Pavia's fourth-quarter magic for a comfortable Longhorn victory.
Sunday AP Poll Implications
Georgia will firmly cement its place in the top three alongside Miami and Ohio State. Florida will likely hold around #19 or #20, as the committee and AP voters will respect the razor-thin margin in Atlanta. Keep your heads high, Gator fans—this team has heart, talent, and plenty left to fight for.
Keep the swamp water cold, get some rest, and I’ll see you on the news wire during the week. Chomp on!
