Game Lab: Echo Escape
Navigate a pitch-black maze using only your footsteps while shadows creep closer as time runs out. It's the ultimate test of listening skills and parental patience.
How to play
- Press and hold 'W' to move forward, watching for distant whispers that signal safe zones.
- Release 'W' instantly when you hear a sharp snap to hide from lurking shadows.
- Hold your breath by muting your mic if the room goes silent to avoid attracting them.
- Tap 'Space' repeatedly once you reach the exit light to sprint out before it vanishes.
- Watch the timer tick down while the walls breathe closer with every step you take.
Why it works on stream
Try not to scream when the lights go out and the only way forward is by ear alone, just like trying to find the bathroom in the middle of the night without waking anyone.
Let chat in on it
Viewers who type 'ECHO' in chat will make the shadows move twice as fast for the next run, proving that a single comment can ruin your entire gaming session faster than a toddler finding the game controller.
Build it in a weekend
Create a simple 2D top-down grid with invisible walls using basic HTML and CSS. Use the Web Audio API to generate random footstep sounds and trigger a mild jump scare when players get too close to an edge or stand still too long. Add a 'breath' mechanic that temporarily mutes stream audio for three seconds to simulate holding your breath.
We all know the silence between noise is where the real monsters live, but at least they can't hear your game over face.
